Compost Site Update
The Compost Site will open on Saturdays ONLY from April 3, 2021 to November 20, 2021. The site is available to City of Richmond residents only. A Public Works staff member will be on site to verify proof of residency. Please bring a valid driver’s license and water bill.
No commercial dumping is allowed at the site. All rules and regulations must be followed at all times. Acceptable items at the site are: brush, vegetation, grass clippings, straw/hay, leaves and compostable bags. IMPORTANT – all tree limbs must be under 6 inches in diameter and under 4 feet in length. We will not accept tree limbs or branches larger than this at the site. Items that are NOT accepted at the site are: plastic bags, lumber, metal, tires and trash. If you bring un-acceptable items, you will not be able to use the compost site until acceptable items are presented. As a reminder, the site is also under surveillance. Those using the site illegally will be prosecuted.
Yard Waste Reminder
If you don’t want to wait until Saturday each week to use the site, please utilize the weekly curbside pick-up of yard waste. Heartland Waste picks up yard waste each week for all residents in Richmond through October 31.
Residents WEST of Spartan Dr are picked up on Mondays.
Residents EAST of Spartan Dr are picked up on Wednesdays.
Simply place your yard waste at the curb each week. Up to 10 bio-degradable bags of yard waste are allowed each week. Yard waste can also be placed into no more than three 20-gallon trash containers that can be manually lifted and dumped into the truck (less than 75 pounds).
Allowable items for yard waste pick-up are:
- Leaves
- Grass clippings
- Yard and garden vegetation
- Small limbs/sticks less than 4 feet long and bundled to under 2 feet in diameter
