The City of Richmond is committed to efficiently maintaining our infrastructure. Part of that infrastructure includes approximately 42 miles of City streets. Each year the City of Richmond contracts out street maintenance throughout the City. Streets need to be maintained regularly to ensure a viable transportation system for residents, businesses and visitors. This activity typically starts in late July and is completed by the end of August.
The 2020 Street Maintenance Project included the resurfacing of 15 streets in Richmond and was approached a little differently than in the past. Typically, the City utilizes contractors to mill and overlay City streets. This year however, they City chose contractor Donelson Construction Company and a new method of resurfacing, PressurePave. The PressurePave process is extremely efficient and cuts down the amount of time the street closed or impassible due to maintenance. This reduces the negative impacts street maintenance project can have on our residents.
“Providing a high level of service to the residents of Richmond is one of our top priorities”, says Public Works Director Dale Shipp. “One of the ways to do that, is to continually look for ways to improve how we maintain our infrastructure. We are excited to offer a higher level of service to the community this year.”
