The City Council remains focused on beautification and is committed to providing a high level of services to its residents’ while being good stewards of public funds. Beginning April 1st, the City will offer curbside yard waste pick-up from Heartland Waste to all residential trash customers. The weekly schedule for pick-up will be Monday for residents on the West side of Hwy 13 and Wednesday for those on the East side of Hwy 13.
“We are excited to offer this new service to the citizens of Richmond”, says City Administrator Tonya Willim. “City Council has prioritized beautification through Richmond, and curbside yard waste pick-up will make it more convenient for residents to keep their yards beautiful.”
Although trash rates have not increased in 8 years, customers will see a slight increase on their utility bill beginning in May. Trash rates will be increasing by $1.50 per month for all trash customers. As a reminder, Seniors ages 65 and older can apply for a $2.00 discount per month. Additionally, optional curbside recycling is available for an additional $0.50 per month and is free for seniors 65 and older.
Allowable yard waste that will be picked up curbside includes dry leaves, grass clippings, yard and garden vegetation. Weekly pick up will include up to 10 bio-degradable bags (no plastic) of yard waste or sticks and limbs cut and bundled in bundles no larger than two (2) feet in diameter and no longer than four (4) feet in length. In lieu of bio-degradable bags, yard waste can also be placed in no more than three (3) 20-gallon trash containers that can be manually lifted and dumped into the truck. Plastic is not an acceptable material and will not be picked up.
The compost site is scheduled to open on Saturday, April 4th at 7:00 am. The Compost Site will be open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm for City of Richmond residents.
