Curbside Compost Pick Up

For your convenience, the City of Richmond will have a curbside pick-up:

Ward 4 – Monday, April 22, 2019
Ward 3 – Tuesday, April 23, 2019
Ward 2 – Wednesday, April 24, 2019
Ward 1 – Thursday, April 25, 2019

All acceptable yard waste must be stacked at the curb no later than 6:00 a.m. on the morning of the date of your Ward pick up. City crews are not to enter yards to pick up yard waste.

Per City Ordinance Section 235.400 ACCEPTABLE leaves (in bio-degradable bags), tree limbs cut no longer than 4′ (feet) and only 6″ (inches) in diameter and twigs that are bundled with twine. Larger limbs and tree stumps will only be picked up if they are cut to the appropriate size.

Larger items exceeding the size requirements will NOT be picked up and leaves or twigs in plastic bags will NOT be picked up.

Accepted only: Non-contaminated soil, yard and garden vegetation, grass clippings, non-woody plant residues, limbs and brush (appropriate size only), straw, hay leaves and compostable bags.

The City Compost Site has opened for the season on April 6, 2019 to November 16, 2019.

Outside city residents and/or commercial contractors

Commercial contractors must have a valid occupational license.

Per City Ordinance Section 235.400 Compost/Brush Site Regulations:
You may bring to the compost:
1. Non-contaminated soil
2. Yard and garden vegetation
3. Grass clippings
4. Non-woody plant residues
5. Limbs and brush (appropriate size). Maximum size is: MUST be 6 inches in diameter and 4 feet long
6. Straw
7. Hay
8. Leaves
9. Compostable bags
