Hamann Park is Underway!

Hamann Park Groundbreaking

A groundbreaking ceremony for the newest park in our city was held February 7 at its location near Crispin Street and Highway 13. Mrs. Billie Hamann, whose husband the park is named for, joined members of the Park Board, Mayor, City Administrator, City Council liaison, and Parks and Recreation employees in manning shovels to turn the first dirt. Work will begin soon with earth moving and layout of the design determined by the Park Board over many months of deliberation and financing.

The park will be a great outdoor asset as the first park in the north part of our city and will include two pavilions, bathrooms, two play areas, walking trails, open areas, and parking. After the original site across the highway was purchased by Oak Pointe, this area was chosen for its great topography, trees, a creek, and quick access to Highway 13. Hamann Park is named for Charles Hamann, who was a longtime schoolteacher and community leader in Richmond. In the future, a sidewalk is planned to extend from Main Street to the Park area, which will be an additional boon to walkers. Chris Macey Excavating was the bid chosen to be the contractor to develop the park. Local citizens, clubs, and businesses are welcome to donate toward the shelters, a bench, any of the amenities, or a commemorative paving stone.

Thanks to Richmond citizens for making this possible through the Parks tax!
