Dr. Justin Meier was honored by the City of Richmond and the Missouri Municipal League on July 21 as the recipient of a 2016 Civic Leadership Award. The award was presented during the annual MML West Gate Region banquet held in Blue Springs. Attending with Dr. Meier was his wife, Laura Beth. The award was presented by Richmond Mayor Mike Wright and MML West Gate Division President R.L. Scharfen.
Dr. Justin Meier and his wife are relative newcomers to the community, yet they immediately became interested in helping many citizens. They partnered with the local school district to develop a program on early release days providing tutoring, snacks and physical activities for K-8 children, where they served over 120 children.
Dr. Meier, his family and his church provided Christmas food and gifts for 42 families this past year. Dr. Meier coaches youth soccer and, in partnership with the Missouri Comets and FCKC, he started the Richmond Soccer Club, providing year around soccer for over 50 children. Dr. Meier is active in the local Chamber of Commerce, is president-elect of the Ray County Coalition, a drug prevention group; and is a board member of the Women’s Resource Center, a group centered on preventing unwanted pregnancies and providing help and support when they occur. He and his church community have provided assistance to over 80 individuals who are unable to properly care for their property. Dr. Meier is also active with a citizen group that is working for passage of a use tax for betterment of the city. The lead pastor at Grace Church, Dr. Meier and his family are making a huge difference in the community.
