The City of Richmond offers grants to help residents and businesses improve sidewalks and drainage issues on their property. The City designates a portion of the Transportation Tax Fund to be utilized as 50/50 grants to assist property owners who wish to replace broken, deteriorated sidewalks or drainage system piping or install new sidewalks or drainage system piping in the City right-of-way on their property. Property owners must fill out an application. If awarded, the City will grant 50% of costs up to $3,000 for the lowest of 3 bids. Right of Way permit is required. Both programs are managed by the Community Development Department.
Applications must be completed and submitted to the Community Development Department. All sidewalk and drainage policies and standards must be followed. Please contact Community Development at 816-776-5304 for more information.
Sidewalk Improvement Program
The purpose of the Sidewalk Improvement Program is to improve the sidewalk system in the City of Richmond by providing grants for qualifying sidewalk projects to property owners of residential and/or commercially zoned property within the city limits of Richmond.

The purpose of the Drainage Improvement Program is to improve the drainage system in the City of Richmond by providing grants for qualifying drainage (culvert) projects to property owners of residential and/or commercially zoned property within the city limits of Richmond.

What you need to know
*Owner must provide 3 bids by qualified, licensed contractors. (Property owner may perform the work themselves if they demonstrate capability.)
*City will grant 50% of costs up to $3,000 for lowest bid.
*Property owners may only receive one grant per property, per year.
*Right-of-Way permit required.
*Adopted policies, standards and procedures must be followed.
