Beautification is becoming more of a priority for the City of Richmond. One of the City of Richmond Council goals is to develop a Beautification Program. Through that program, the City is focusing on improving the aesthetics of the community.
In 2016, the City was deeded an old building on the northeast corner of the downtown square. The property was blighted and the building was beyond repair. After demolishing the structure and cleaning up debris, a preliminary concept was developed for community pavilion space. The City identified the need to secure additional funding and grants to move the project forward in phases.
The City can begin the first phase of development of the downtown “community space” is because of a $14,000.00 grant from the Richmond Rotary Club and Rotary District 6040. “With the additional funds provided, we can now begin the first phase of work needed for the lot, which includes a retaining wall and decorative fencing”, says City Administrator Tonya Willim. “We are honored to be recipients of the Rotary Grant and excited that they will also be placing a majestic Rotary Post Clock by Verdin on the corner of the space eventually.”
Although the final plans have not yet been determined, the first phase of the development project will be completed in the Spring of 2020. After final plans are developed, the “community space” will be named and dedicated.
